Established in 1974 to serve the needs of underprivileged students from Rural, Semi-Urban and Urban areas. D A.V. College, Karnal has become a reputed Institute of learning in Haryana state. It has become an institution of great standing within a short span. Located in an Urban Town in a campus spread over 2.4 acres, the college has a two and three storeyed building consisting of 50 lecture rooms, one Post Graduate Block, Common Room for Girls, Administrative Block, Canteen, Gymnasium, Audio-visual Lab, Seminar Hall etc. The college has steadily grown over the years and offer various graduate courses like B.A. with options ( Political Science, History, Economics, Sanskrit, Geography, Rural Industrialization, Psychology, Maths, Computer Science etc.), B.Com.(Aided), B.Com. (Hons.), B.Com. (Self-Finance), B.Com.(Tax Procedure and Practice), B.Com. (Computer Applications), BBA, BCA, B.Sc. (Non-Medical & Computer Science), BAMC and Post-Graduate Courses like M.Com., M.A. (Economics), M.A. (English), M.Sc. (Mathematics), M.Sc. (Geography), P.G.D.C.A. D.A.V. College is affiliated to Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra and aided by the State Government of Haryana.

Starting with just 272 students in the faculties of Art, Commerce at the undergraduate level, the College has now as many as 2300 students (including 900 girls) on its roll in various faculties at Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels. Students are admitted on the basis of their academic records following the reservation policy of the State Government. After admission, through class tests, house examinations, tutorial assignments and talent search programmes, the students skills are tested. Extra Coaching is arranged for weaker students. Advanced learners are made to participate in Quizes, Seminars Competitions etc.

Unitised Syllabus is covered in full according to a planned teaching schedule. Teaching techniques like Group Discussions and Seminars are used to supplement class room lectures. Audio Visual aids and Projectors are also used. Teaching faculty is recruited as per regulations prescribed by authorities.
